iFly – Infrared5 goes to the iPhone

Infrared5 has done it!  We have released our first official game for the iPhone/iPod Touch.  CHECK IT OUT HERE.  It is a great game – and done in a similar vein as the flying on our site (http://www.infrared5.com – click on the “Fly Me” button in the top right).  You can select from several different levels through several different difficulties – and try to collect as many squares as you can before you reach the bottom (and the time runs out).  But, unlike the site, iFly takes advantage of the accelerometer, letting you control your plane by tilting it in the direction you want to fly.  John Grden has done a great job with the controls – letting you select from any number of positions  – so you can even play the game lying on your back!

The application was done in Unity3D – which I’m proud to say we are getting very good at.  It is our first of many iPhone applications – so if you have any desire to develop a game or application, drop me a line and we can get you set up!  We have a number of iPhone afficionados at Infrared5 now, including Keith Peters, who released the highly addictive and highly entertaining Falling Balls.

I must say, I really do enjoy coding for the iPhone – although I do find Objective-C to be a very ugly language.  Coming originally from a C background it wasn’t the hardest thing to learn, but honestly, the syntax is terribly hard to read.  I have been getting better, and Keith is probably relieved since I unofficially appointed him my Obj-C goto guy.

Anyways – look for some fun new releases from our team in the coming months.  There are some great applications in the works that will really push what is possible on the iPhone.

Cheers.
